Asbestos Abatement
Project Overview
HCGEOT was contracted to remove asbestos-containing material (ACM) paper insulation from heat register vents and HVAC ductwork throughout a residential property in Ottawa. The work was completed in April 2026 in accordance with Ontario Regulation 278/05. ACM paper was identified on multiple heat register vent locations and along HVAC duct runs. All material was wetted prior to removal and handled in a controlled manner to maintain non-friable condition throughout the abatement.
Project Challenges
ACM paper insulation on heat register vents and HVAC ductwork requires careful wet suppression and controlled handling to prevent the material from becoming friable during removal. The ductwork ran through multiple areas of the property, requiring methodical progression through each location to ensure complete removal without cross-contamination. New ductwork replacement was coordinated as part of the same scope to restore the HVAC system on completion.
Scope of Work
- Pre-work site assessment and identification of all ACM paper locations on heat register vents and HVAC ductwork
- Asbestos abatement procedures established in accordance with Ontario Regulation 278/05
- Wet suppression applied to all ACM paper insulation prior to removal to maintain non-friable condition
- Controlled removal of ACM paper from all heat register vent locations
- Controlled removal of ACM paper from all HVAC duct locations throughout the property
- Double-bagging and labelling of all asbestos-containing waste material
- Licensed asbestos waste disposal
- HEPA vacuuming of all duct and vent surfaces following ACM removal
- Supply and installation of new replacement ductwork where required
- Post-abatement documentation and work progress report issued

Results
All ACM paper insulation was successfully removed from heat register vents and HVAC ductwork throughout the property. Removal was completed with minimal disturbance to the material — wet suppression maintained non-friable conditions throughout. New replacement ductwork was installed on completion, restoring the HVAC system. A full work progress report with photographic documentation was issued to the client upon completion in April 2026.
